To pinch a lyric from Blazin' Squad, “One A.M.” sees underground Chicagoan MC Diverse flip-reverse it, with an energetic debut that isn't shy of dallying with mainstream hip-hop stylings. Playing tag with a dusty jazz vocal, hip-hop royalty would kill for a track as young, fresh and new as “Ain't Right,” while elsewhere the slinky, blunted jazz of “Big Game” and the orchestral “Leaving” see this former poet emulate The Roots, only without the worthiness. If only the world at large would listen up.
